STM: Etiquette question?

I just had my DD 1st birthday party over the weekend and I was wondering if you send Thank yous for the gifts?   Every first birthday I went to I never received a thank you. I didn't know if it is something I  should do or not.  Thanks in advance :)

  • I'm a FTM but all my friends have kids and I received either a TY note or a picture from the 1st bday parties that says thank you. I think they usually make them at a drug store or snapfish.com.

  • I did...I am so sick of TY notes.

  • I ALWAYS send thank you notes for any type of gift given or when we stay at someone's house for an extended amount of time or something. It's common courtesy, but I was always raised that way so I'm not if everyone would agree. I definitely would not seco
  • I sent thank you notes to those who were not at the party but sent a gift.  Everyone else we were able to thank in person.

  • This might be horrible, but I don't do TYs for anything. I never have the time and I never expect them either.

  • I always send thank you notes after DDs birthday parties, even for guests who were at the party and we thanked in person. We always receive thank you cards from DD's friends after attending their birthday parties as well. It's just the norm here.

  • Definitely! It can take some time, but I think people really appreciate it. I typically send a thank you note for any gift we receive or any time someone goes out of their way for me...it's just the way we were brought up.

  • I always send a thank you note for any sort of gift for DS, the family, etc. We had a few to send recently, so we typed up the thank you's to save time. I then had DS color on the inside of all the cards and just folded up the typed note inside. It was fu

  • I send a thank you for anything that is more "official."  I.e. if you sent out formal invitations, then you should send out formal TYs, imo.  This is not the only time I write them, but when in doubt it's a good rule of thumb.

  • Absolutely send thank you notes! People took the time to buy a present and come to the party, you can take the time to write a quick note. I think it's rude not to.
  • As much of a pain as it is, yes. We did a 12 month pic of DS and a handwritten note on the back.

  • Another vote for thank yous - especially if you had a party.  I also will add I roll my eyes when I get a thank you that's a picture with "thank you" just printed on it.  Take a minute and write something, even if it's just a generic "thanks for

  • I usually do thank yous.... I did for my wedding shower, wedding and baby shower but honestly for my son's first birthday, I didn't. Totally intended to, but really just didn't get around to it lol. Life changes when you have a kid.

  • I used to for every birthday... But then my family politely told me that I didn't have to. They said the verbal thank you at the end of the party was more than enough. I still do thank yous to people who gave something but didn't come to the party though.

  • Thanks everyone for your input. I will definitely send out my thank yous. I just didn't know the etiquette for birthdays.  I like the idea of a picture with a little note.

  • I send thank yous for everything. I go to vistaprint, get cheap thank you's with my name on them, and wa-la.

It takes thirty seconds, so even if I have to write 15, it doesn't take too long. I honestly get more hung up on looking up the damn addr

  • I always send thank you note, baby shower birthday christmas and any other gifts we may receive. I know it has kind of died out these days but if they buy you a gift the least you can do is send a thank you.
