Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Clingy LO

DS (9 months) has been getting more and more clingy in the past 2 months.  My parents watch him during the day and I love that he gets all this one-on-one attention, but now he won't even sit by himself for more than a minute or two.  I tried walking away while talking to him, giving him a new toy, letting him fuss/cry, but nothing seemed to work.  Today he cried for about 20 minutes while I was about 5 steps away talking to him the whole time.  He just wants me to sit within arm's reach of him.  Even then, he'd only tolerate that for about 5 minutes, then he climbs on me and wants to either sit in my lap or have me hold him.

He is going to daycare in 3 weeks so I think he is going to have a really hard time transitioning.  Any ideas?  Is this normal?

  • It's a stage. DD is like it for me now. Not so bad if I'm gone away, but if I'm in the house she needs to be next to me. I'm sure LO will adjust to daycare.
