Bleeding ears

I just realized that you ladies may have some ideas! Have you ever heard of a baby (or anyone really) having their ears bleed? Greyson has tubes, and every once in a while his ears will bleed so badly that they drip blood. It's enough that if he's asleep when it starts he'll wake up with his face caked in it.  It's bright red, and really fluid, so I don't think it's old blood. His ENT's brilliant answer was "some times kids bleed" and she wouldn't see him. She just told me to keep his normal appointment in May. I'm not ok with this answer, and want someone to tell me where all that blood is coming from.

Thursday when it happened there was easily 1/4 cup of blood, if not more. Please don't tell me that "it happens", I hate that answer.

Also, would this concern you?? Am I over reacting by demanding someone figure this out? Be honest, but gentle Wink

Re: Bleeding ears

  • Do you have him on any vitamins, supplements or medications that act as anticoagulants? We were giving Nate Fish oil and vitamin E which made his bloody noses more frequent and with large blood volume.

It may be that his tube sites are gettin

  • The only medications he's on daily are probiotics and and his reflux meds (prilosec). He doesn't take asprin or anything of that sort, because they haven't finished ruling out blood disorders. He doesn't wear hearing aids, and the doctors can see his r

  • I would find another ENT. If your physician isn't taking your concerns seriously it will be difficult to maintain a relationship.

  • This probably isn't going to be terribly helpful because this is my own very vague memory of when I was 3.5-4 years old but I used to bleed from my ears. I did have tubes put in and used to have terrible infections but I can't say if that was before or

  • I know most of you will probably think I'm crazy, but my biggest issue is that my mommy gut tells me it's something bigger then just a random bleed. Plus, while I don't like that answer, I could accept "kids just bleed" if I were being taken seriously, an
  • The ENT is not serving your child. I would find another one ASAP who takes the concerns seriously, esp. given that your child has other health issues.

  • I just reread my response and realized it may have come across wrong. I was just trying to validate your feelings, not make you feel like you weren't taking the issue seriously. Follow your gut. There are many reasons why people bleed from their ears, ran

  • Honestly, I don't want to scare you. The most likely cause would be irritation of the skin, such as eczema. If he's only bleeding at night, I'd assume his inner ear itches and he scratches while sleeping. I'm on my phone and can't see how old your LO is.

  • It doesn't happen just at night. The last time this happened the ENT discovered that he has Mastoiditis, and scheduled him for surgery. When they went in for his surgery they discovered that the infection was much more extreme then they'd expected, and

  • I'm so sorry your LO has already gone through such a surgery at such a young age. From what you've described, maybe a consult with a neurologist may be the next logical step. Again, I hope you get some answers soon!

Also, I have a totally eye roll worthy question- what exactly counts as "special needs" to be accepted on this board?

  • Pretty much anything that makes your kid require more care than most. I have seen a wide range of people on here. When I first got on this board, my little one was just slightly delayed. His delays are much more now, but I have always felt welcomed. <b
