cosleeping?

How old is too old to cosleep with baby? And what is the best way to transition into their own bed? My mother in law coslept is that the right term lol up until about a year ago. My niece just turned 7 and has issues going to sleep/ staying asleep now. My own son will be 3 soon and he likes sleeping with me. I want to start moving him to his own bed but he's resisting. Hard. I've tried everything I can think of to get him to stay in his room. Any ideas? Help is greatly appreciated :
