you shouldn't always trust the first diagnosis...
We went to a hand specialist last week about Nate's abducted thumbs. The bone scan that we done on him at birth noted "shortened first metacarpel". Nope. Wrong.
After review of a new xray, the specialist said his hand bones are normal size.
He has "bilateral folded thumbs" that are most likely the result of a very tight web space between the pointer and thumb. Since he has good use of the hands and can open the thumbs fine, no surgery is needed.
Second opinions can be valuable!
