Trying to Get Pregnant

Afraid to hope

we've been trying to get pregnant for 30 months now and even our doctor is starting to give up hope.  I have PCOS, initially he thought it would be an easy fix, but after over a year of treatments there has only been ovulation once a few months ago. because we can't afford invitro treatments this is pretty much the end of the line for us.  Shortly before I had an ovulation in December I had given up tracking my bbt, it was putting so much stress on me as I was obsessing about it.

for the most part, in the last year or so my cycle has been, on average, about 33 days, thought there has been one or two instances of reaching 38 or 44 days with no pregnancy.  I am now on day 36, but things seem a little different.  My breasts have been more sore than usual, i've started waking up in the mornings when I roll onto my stomach because they are so tender.  I've also had many afternoons/evenings of extended...ickyness feelings, not quite nausea, but definitely thinking if I could puke I would feel better.  I haven't noticed anything else, like darkening aureola or increased frequency of urination.  I've read so many different articles in the last 2.5 years I'm not even sure when certain symptoms would appear.  I have friends who experienced symptoms before they were late, and others who said they experienced nothing until nearly their 3rd month.  I want so desperately to be pregnant that I'm afraid I'm imagining things out of my desire.  I want to take a test, but I'm so afraid of seeing yet another negative, I don't think I could stand it.

Do you think taking a test is actually justified this time, that there may be slightest chance of finally being pregnant?

Re: Afraid to hope

  • Take a test...we can't possibly know.

  • Yes, you should take a test.  And keep testing every week until you get a BFP, get your period, or hit day 60.  If you hit day 60, call your doctor.

  • Ditto what the others said. I thought that I had some pregnancy symptoms about a week back now, but after I told myself that I can't read too much into it since I had just come off BCP back in March, they pretty much went away.

    Go take a test, an

  • I'm sorry for your struggle, but symptoms aren't ever a good predictor of pregnancy...you need to take a test. And...if you're pregnant enough to have all these symptoms, you would be pregnant enough to make a test positive. Or you're just having PMS. Onl
