Baby Showers

When to send thank you cards

When I was married last year we sent all our thank you cards within 4 weeks of the wedding. What is the norm for baby shower gifts? Should you wait for baby to be born so the thank you is from them too?
My SIL had her shower on Nov 17, 2012, and I JUST got her baby shower thank you card yesterday...April12, 2013...waaaay too late in my opinion. Her son was born Dec 30! However she did send a little wallet size picture of the baby with the card that I thought was cute.
Would it be okay to write them all out and send a little picture/announcement with them as soon as baby is born?

Re: When to send thank you cards

  • Congrats on the great job with your wedding TY's!

Same rules apply here - get your notes out ASAP.  The shower was held in your honor so the TY note is from you.

  • IMO thank you's should be sent out within two weeks. I would advise against waiting until your baby is born because with a newborn, the thank you's won't be at the top of your priority list.
  • Send ASAP. If you want to send a picture,k you can, but do it seperately.

  • Write them all now. DS got so many gifts after he was actually born, plus the meals people dropped off to us. Thank god I had already gotten the shower TYs out. I had many late nights writing more TYs for everything after he was born.

This.  Send your thank you's ASAP.  The announcement can come afterwards.

  • I got my cards out within 2 days of my shower. If I had waited longer I would have started to forget who gave what. I think a month is a long time to wait after a shower to send cards. I sent separate birth announcements after the baby was born.

  • I had two showers---one this past weekend and one the weekend before. Thank you cards for both showers are going out today and tomorrow. Personally, I think 4-6 weeks is plenty of time to send someone a thank you card. Anything longer than that feels too long to me.
  • No, don't wait. Send out the note as soon as you receive the gift.
  • I would send then out right away. My bridal shower was in another state and on the drive home I wrote all the thank you's. I received a lot of compliments on how quick the thanks you's were sent out. People seemed to really appreciate it. I think the same would apply to a baby shower. I may be wrong, but that's what I plan on doing. Plus, after baby is born I'm going to be so busy and tired as awful as it may be thank you's would probably be last thing on my mind.
