Success and education

I know the term successful can vary in definition based on viewpoints, etc.  But let's make this easy and say in this question I mean on a scale of sorts - maybe by degree or title?  Who of your family has the highest degree or job title.  I am not saying one is more important than the other by any means.

This is a subject of conversation between H and I right now as he has 20+ first cousins and it is a HUGE range of education levels, life styles, employment, careers, etc.  It is interesting just how different people can be.  He has an uncle who is a school custodian all the way to a cousin that is a doctor to his dad who didn't finish high school and became a bull rider.  Random!

I thought it would be interesting to compare.

Re: Success and education

  • I have three siblings and I'm the only one with a degree - I have a BBA and an MBA. I am one of 8 cousins and 5 of us have a degree, but I'm the only one with an MBA.

H is one of 4 siblings and all of them have at least a Bachelor's degree

  • It's funny you bring this up because my mom is the 6th of 6 kids.  The range of education/degrees/success in that family is astounding!!!!  I have one cousin who can't hold down a job and is constantly claiming to be disabled for purposes of col

  • My BIL and FIL and DH's uncle are all doctors so they have great degrees. DH and I both have a Bachelors (Arts for me and Computer Science for him). Our company is kind of snobby about degrees and I don't think most of my peers realize I *only* have a BA

  • I'm glad this didn't come across judgey or anything because that was not my intention.  I just think it is so interesting how families can be so different, even individuals within a family.  My brother is on his own path - not quite of destru

  • I have two cousins with college degrees, I have a bachelors, my brothers both have associates, and the rest have nothing.

The cousins with degrees are both in management (one a hotel, the other a golf course) and both on my mom's side.  She

  • I have a Bachelor's degree and H has an associate's. He has always held a higher title and made much more money than I ever did. This is possibly my own fault because in the jobs I've had I never envied the higher stress and higher paying roles. That make

  • Wow, now that I think of it I don't think any of my siblings have degrees. At least none that they use. My oldest step brother graduated from a police training academy before I met him, but he is a mechanic. My other step brother went into the army after

  • My mom and all of her siblings graduated with degrees. Two in nursing, one is a teacher, one in finance, and the youngest in pharmacy and law. My dad never went to college but he is a lieutenant on a fire department and makes decent money now.

  • I have no college degree, I finished 2 years out of the 4 and that's it.

DH has a Bachelors in English. It does him no good other than being able to say he has a college degree, which I do think helps him in the job market for sure, but I d
