help?

Hi I'm new to the bump! I have a daughter named Maddison who was born July 10, 2012. She was and still is a very difficult baby. She had colic when she was born, and basically screamed her head off every second of the day until she was 5 months old. She still screams if I'm not holding her or playing with her, but it's not as bad now. She has always been a terrible sleeper at night, she refuses to sleep in her crib, or anywhere else besides right next to me or my husband.

She goes to bed at 7:30 and I have to go to bed with her because she will wake up every 10 minutes screaming because I'm not there. I really want time to myself in the evenings, time with my husband who I barely see. I'm absolutely miserable. I don't know what to do. I tried to let her cry so she can put herself to sleep, but within 30 minutes she was hysterical, blue in the face, holding her breath, and she vomited everywhere. I tried some no cry methods, but they didn't work, and she still cried pretty hard.

I need help! I want her to learn to self soothe, so I can spend time with my husband in the evenings!!

Re: help?

  • DS is a pretty light sleeper so I have to be careful about sneaking away. I recommend waiting until she's super asleep, like wavy limbs asleep, and then carefully and quietly slipping away. If you have a monitor so that you can hear if she stirs, great! I

  • We started a slow process of putting him down more and more drowsy at that point and did lots of pick-up-put-down for the first several weeks. It took about 3 weeks, but then he started to sleep in his crib for a longer stretch (3-5 hours) at the begin

  • Have you ruled out any physical causes of the screaming?  I'm thinking like food intolerances like dairy or soy?  Those can most definitely cause sleep issues as well.
  • Thanks everyone! We've ruled out medical issues. I have even avoided dairy when she was a newborn, since I breastfeed, and it didn't help any. I've taken her to many doctors and they all just tell me that this is her personality. I guess I'll keep trying
  • I am right there with ya sister. We are blessed with an attached to my hip baby. Recently we have gotten her to sleep though by wearing her in a moby type wrap before bedtime. I just lay her against my chest and go on about my business until she falls asl
