CD moms- If you use vinegar...

How much do you use and what part of the wash routine do you put it in on?

My wash routine is (top loader)-

full wash on heavy duty, no soap (acts as 2 rinses)

heavy duty cycle with soap

extra rinse

I saw someone say that it helps fight the stink... I need serious help with that. No matter what, the diapers and especially the inserts are still a little stinky after washing. I even stripped with blue dawn and had to rinse like 5 bazillion times so they should be pretty thoroughly stripped. They went right back to being yucky smelling even after washing. I know it's not causing any harm because it's been like this for a long time and no rashes, repelling issues, etc have happened but I am tired of the stink!!! TIA!

Re: CD moms- If you use vinegar...

  • Hi,

I myself haven't tried vinegar yet, but I believe I've seen ladies say they add it to their fabric softener dispenser so it goes in the rinse cycle added to the clean diapers.  What kind of stink is it?  If it's barnyard stink you'l

  • As far as what kind of stink, I really can't figure out if it's barnyard vs. ammonia. I know that seems crazy, but it's like a mix almost. Before washing I do know that the ammonia smell is horrible, it will just about knock you over if you open the pail.

  • We used to have really bad ammonia too. If you are sure it isnt soap build-up, could it be the water? Ours turned out to be that the water was really hard and the soap wasn't washing out 100%. I ended up switching to Rockin Green Hard Rock, only 2 TBSP an

If the smell before washing almost knocks you over, I think you have an ammonia problem. When I had that problem,

  • Maybe you're waiting too long between washes . I think it's not recommended to go past 3 days. Maybe try every 3 days after your stink is gone and see if it makes a difference.

  • I use white vinegar every wash. I just chuck some in before I start the wash with the detergent. So the whole thing goes: rise on hot, rinse on cod, wash with vinegar and arm and hammer free and clear, rinse on hot, dry.
