Hubs likes Lydia for our daughter's name. I like it. I like it a lot, actually, but it doesn't *quite* feel like "the one" for me. But I LOVE the nickname Lydie. I've decided I don't want to give my daughter a "nickname" for her full first name, so if we go with this name it'll be Lydia on her birth certificate even if I only ever plan to call her Lydie.
Questions:
1. Would you use a name that you aren't over the moon about if you really liked the nn?
2. Am I going to be the only one who ever calls her Lydie, because Lydia is just so much more recognizable (like over the phone, at starbucks, etc.) that she'll always introduce herself as Lydia instead of Lydie?
Re: Love the nickname, meh on the full name
1. I did, my DS is Tyler, I love Ty, ok about Tyler.
2. If she prefers her NN she will likely go by that, unfortunately for me my DS no longer likes Ty.
I would use the full first name instead of the nickname in most cases. However, there are some nicknames that I feel like have become full names. So, it depends. In the case of Lydia/Lydie I think Lydie sounds more like a nn and she'll have

1. I didn't. We loved the name Abe, but hated all the "full names" (Abraham, Abel, Abrahm). We decided to just go with Abe and I think it works great as a stand alone name. Lydie is a little different as it is much more nick-namey and I don't think it
I call my DD Lydie, Lid (Lyd?), or Lydie Lou most of the time. I feel like I end up using Lydia mostly when she is in trouble lately. Some of my close friends have started calling her Lydie too. She says her name is "Wid - eh(A)"<

1: Yes, I totally would.
2: Not necessarily. I grew up with a Lydie, and no one ever called her Lydia. In fact, it never even dawned on me that she was a Lydia until we were adults.
