NTTCALR: Cat people?? Help me?

One of my cats is suffering from seasonal allergies. At a routine vet visit last week the vet noticed that he had a bald spot between his eye and ear that was a little scabby. I just assumed it was due to my other cat cleaning him obsessively but apparently those types of rashes and hair loss are characteristic of seasonal allergies.

Anyway, he's on prednisone for the next week. I have to give him 2 pills a day and it's proving to be nearly impossible. This little butt face has become an expert at spitting them right back out at me. And, the more I try the wetter the pill gets and the harder it becomes to give him a full dose. The pill sorta crumbles as it gets wet.

The last time he had to take medication, the pills tasted/smelled like fish so there was no problem but now he's making it nearly impossible.

Any suggestions? Would mashing it up in some wet food work?

I've never had to do it but my mom would put the pill in some raw hamburger then put in as far to the back of their mouth as possible so they didn't spit it out. They would always gag and be upset with her but it worked.

Definitely wrap it in something like meat or cheese. My parents dog has to take allergy meds year round and it's the only way she will take them. It's hard! Good luck!

I was going to suggest trying to crush it and mix in with wet cat food. Good luck! I had to give my cats ear drops one time. Yay right! She was not having it.

Honestly, I would just grab my cat's upper and lower jaw and open up her mouth...tilt her head back...put the pill in and wait for her to swallow..she would always try to work it back up with her tongue for a few seconds but couldn't since I had her

We always mixed it in with food...crushing it up into a wet food. If we left the pill whole our cats would always weasel it outta the food or pick around it in the dry food

You should ask your vet for liquid pred. It does come in liquid form.

If not you could always get a pill gun it is called you put the pill at the end and put the gun in the cats mouth and push the plunger.
