Introing solids

What made you decide it was time to introduce solid foods to your LO? How old was baby?  Did you start with rice cereal or something else?  

LO is 5 months so I don't want to do anything before 6 months just to be safe.  But I'm wondering if I should hold off a little longer so I don't kick up her acid reflux, now that we've finally got it under control.  On the other hand, she is moving, exploring, and fussing more which is burning more calories than before.

    I'm waiting until baby shows signs of readiness. I'm also skipping purees and allowing him to explore foods on his own.

    With DD1 she was maxing out on her formula intake and the doctor suggested solids vs more formula at 4 months old. We started with veggie pures, whole grain cereal, and then offered a new food every week because she was low risk for food allergies. With D

    I started my LO on oatmeal (single-grain) at 4 months. Just a little once a day and then slowly added more and now we're up to twice a day, at lunch and dinner and she LOVES it. I chose to do oatmeal instead of rice first because I read a number of babies

    I started DS on solids when he was 4m1w.  I gave him a tinsy bit of avocado I was eating, to test his tongue thrust reflex.  Well, he kept it down.  It took about 4-5 days before he was swallowing faster/better.

    LO is 4 months now and at her 4 month check up the dr told us to start rice cereal. She still has the tongue-thrust reflex so she's not quite ready for it.
