Hello,
My doula works with an encapsulator who offers two types of placenta encapsulation (see below). Do you have a preference?
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ? In this method, your placenta is steamed with fresh ginger, lemon and hot pepper before dehydrating. This is believed to enhance its warming properties and help balance your energy levels, or ch?i. This method would also kills any potential bacteria. However, there is concern about the potential reduction of the hormone levels when cooking the placenta in temperatures higher than 118?.
- Raw Foods Method - This method involves bypassing the steaming of the placenta and dehydrating it immediately. It is believed that the hormones levels may be higher when the placenta is not steamed and heated over 118 degrees, and is therefore reported to give moms a greater benefit of the hormones. This is the most common method of placenta encapsulation requested.
Re: 2 types of placenta encapsulation - which to choose?
Both versions are generally encapsulated. Raw is done like jerkey - sliced and straight into the dehydrator, TCM is steamed to medium rare (sorry for the visual) before dehydrating.
I prefer half and half. If I can't have half

I guess I had the raw method (straight to dehydrator, not steaming or eating it raw.) I didn't know there were other methods though...
I'd say mine is plenty "warming." The first time I took 5 pills and I had to have Dh open a window bc I w
