cleaning pillow pets?

The tag says spot clean only, but I just want to throw it in the washing machine.  I heard that if I put it in one of those meshy lingerie bags, it should be fine in the washing machine.  Anyone done it?  And other ideas?

 

DD sleeps on her Micky Mouse pillow pet as a pillow every night, and she's a drooler, so I want to wash it.  Spot cleaning is probably not going to cut it.

    can you put it in a pillowcase? Isn't that how you are suppose to wash regular stuffed animals? O never plays with any stuffed animals so I haven't washed any of his yet

    I haven't washed a pillow pet yet, but I did wash a cuddle up it. Similar and it was fine.

    I washed ours and put it through the dryer when V had rotavirus and puked on it. Came out just fine.
