Breastfeeding

So at a get together the other night I noticed one of the new mom friends disappeared to breastfeed for 45 mins every couple hours. Everyone there was close friends but she was the first one who had a baby. It got me thinking about whether she prefers this or whether she's worried about other people.

I'm not sure I will feel the need to isolate myself but then again I wouldnt want to make anyone uncomfortable. What do you ladies plan to do around friends and family?

Re: Breastfeeding

  • I plan on covering up when I do it in front of family and friends.

  • Around family...immediate...I plan to openly breast feed. Two of my SILs are currently breast feeding, so that side of the family is used to seeing boobie. Close friends I think it will depend on their comfort level...however I don't think that most will

  • For me it depends on who's around. A few close friends, I BF right there. With larger groups of people, or if there are dudes I don't know especially well, I'll often leave the room.  More for their comfort level than my own.  But also sometimes

  • I went to a different room usually.  I did nurse in front of my husband and sister.  It was more for my comfort than anyone else's.

    We'll see with this one!

Also, it only took DD 10 minutes or so to nurse. If she took 45, I

I breastfed with a cover around close friends and family.  I have a good friend that always goes into another room because she isn't comfortable doing it infront of friends/famly (even with a cover).

  • I nurse where ever, when ever.  It takes a little bit of time to get the hang of NIP (nursing in public) but after awhile it's easy.  No, I won't use a cover. I don't really need it.

    Meh, we'll see. I honestly don't know.

I always went to a private room or to my car to nurse with DD1. But it was about my own modesty, nothing to do with how it made other people feel. I fully support women BFing wherever, whenever.

  • For the most part I would just do a nursing cover wherever we are but if I wanted a quiet moment I would go somewhere else and just relax for a little while (once the pain went away, nursing was always a very calming/relaxing time for me).

  • Its a personal choice. I will nurse where I am at, with a nursing cover in public. I have lots of friends who do it and its a non issue for everyone :) ... Good luck with your decision.
