Babies: 3 - 6 Months

The WITCHING Hour

Any advice on how to deal with twin 4 month olds who INSIST on being held/rocked from 6:30pm until their 8:30 bottle/bed time. We have tried everything! Swings, seats, play mats, baths, etc. They want nothing more than to take a cat nap in our arms and my husband and I just want to eat some dinner and relax a little without screaming. Is this just a phase/part of colic?

We try to let them cry it out or rock them to sleep and put them down but nothing seems to work.

Re: The WITCHING Hour

  • Have you considered wearing them during this time?

  • I mean I have purchased a couple of wraps but they just dont seem secure enough and i dont feel comfortable with them. Also I probably wouldnt prepare a meal with them on my chest. It seems like they are "spoiled" which I seriously HATE saying, especially
  • I'm part of the club that says you can't spoil a baby. It could just be a phase. My DD went through a similar witching hour for the first two months, and it has seemed to level out now (we're closer to four months).

  • Mine started this at 3 months.  I tried several things, but it was wearing me out trying to entertain a fussy baby.  I now give the night time bottle during the witching hour, which leads to a short "milk coma."  And then a small follow up
  • DD was the exact same way. We'd try to start putting her to bed at 8pm and sometimes she got so worked up by fighting sleep that she wouldn't actually stay asleep until 11pm! I moved bedtime routine up to 7pm and now she is down by 8pm for the night. It h
