Babies: 3 - 6 Months

6 months old and still not rolling

We call our daughter a potato.  She is the happiest little thing and just so stinking cute.  When we give her tummy time she just lays there like a lump.  She's always done that.  She doesn't even attempt to roll from tummy to back or back to tummy.  If she is on her back she makes noises, raspberries, smiles, etc.  But if she is on her tummy she will play for a few minutes and then lay down and pass out.  I even bribed her with my playstation controller...her coveted item of choice.  My son was rolling around at 3 months.  Any advice?

  • Have you brought it up with your doctor? Typically they can roll tummy to back around 4 months so your doctor might have some tips to help you get your DD to learn how.

When DD is on her tummy with her head up high and arms in front of her I'll h

  • I've heard its not a real milestone anymore because it varies so much.  DS was nearly 9 months before he'd do it. He was a little potato too.  Its not something to worry about yet.

  • DS is 6 months and doesn't roll yet.  He's starting to do belly to back.  I'd just keep doing tummy time and try to keep her engaged.  Have you tried putting her down in front of a mirror?  DS suddenly has this fascination with looking

  • I had to laugh at this because a potato is the perfect way to describe my son, too ;)  We call him a slug, lol.  He's perfectly content to lay there and make noises, but doesn't even attempt to roll.  He'll be 6 months on the 22nd.  I'

  • I just started playing a baby video on my laptop for DD while she's doing tummy time because she actually seems to enjoy it and pick her head up instead of screaming. Today she got so excited that she pushed herself over to her back. I don't know if this
  • My ped said that rolling over used to be a four month milestone but now that babies are on their back to sleep its considered more of a six month milestone. So dd isn't really considered delayed in that aspect just yet. I'm pretty sure they need to be abl

  • Ds was a late roller but he has mild hypotonia (low muscle tone). He was about 1-3 months late for all gross motor milestones. We did PT with him for it. If you are concerned, set up an appt for a month from now with your ped so this way it is there in ca

  • My DD#1 was like this - she was the happiest little thing, just sititng in her bouncy seat, and later sitting alone on the floor.  She never felt the need to move at all.  She rolled belly to back just after 4 months, but never consistently. &nb

  • No advice, but my DS didn't roll tummy to back until 6 months, and back to tummy until 7 months.  His pedi was never concerned. She said she could tell he had the strength to do it if he wanted to.

The first time he did it, it was a total ac

  • Thanks ladies!  I feel better knowing that she isn't behind or anything.  I didn't think she was.  She holds her own bottle and stuff....fatty lol.  I will try some of these tricks!
