Warm weather 1st birthday party

DH and I are starting to think about DS's first birthday party.  He will be 1 at the end of June, and while it SHOULD be nice out temperature-wise, we do live in Michigan so it could be 100 degrees and it could be 50.  You never know.  I'm more concerned about the potential for rain or storms though...because I'd love to just have the party at our house, open up the doorwall and have people on the patio/in the back yard.  However if the weather doesn't cooperate I don't think people will want to be outside and there's no way we could fit EVERYONE in our house.  Just close family alone, we're talking 22 people (so 25 include us).  Opening it up to close friends (plus their kids) we're looking at closer to 40-50.  If you're planning a first birthday party or have been to one before at a cool venue, where was it?  I don't really want to rent out a room at a restaurant or hall...that just seems to "sit down fancy".  I want people to be able to sit, get up, walk around, etc.  But I also don't want it at like a Chuck E Cheese or something--it's not like DS would be enjoying that (and I hate Chuck E Cheese anyway).  I just need a PLACE to hold that many people that's fun, relaxed atmosphere, etc.  Any ideas???  (I realize that I won't get actual specific locations since you all don't live in southeastern lower Michigan...just looking for ideas.)

Oh, and...GO BLUE!!!!  :-D

  • Yeah, same issue here... so we decided on renting a tent with sides... this way people can stay in the tent if it is too cold or rainy.  it will be May so it SHOULDN'T be too cold... but we are in MA so wtf knows...  btw.... yup about 100 people
  • Do you or any of your friends or family have a neighborhood clubhouse that you can use?  We are going to rent ours for the kids joint party this june.

  • Community center or a indoor playground place.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Definitely thought about renting a tent. We may look into that more. Possibly a local metro park...but I know it'd be hard for some of my older relatives to get to. Thank you for helping me start brainstorming!
