Did you? Would you? Will you again?

Wake your newborn to eat?

I went to see my friend and her 4 w/o son yesterday...omg I miss a snuggly baby! Although it really did make me appreciate my 'big' boy and then I also wondered how in the world people handle 2u2! Anyhow, she was saying how for the first couple weeks she woke baby up to eat. Her aunt was appalled that she was waking a sleeping baby. My friend told her that it was her pedis advice.

I had to wake DS for the first few weeks to eat as well but mostly because he lost 13 ozs in the hospital and was having trouble gaining weight initially. The way my child houses food now you would've never known feeding was an issue LOL!

  • I had to wake DD a little because she was slightly jaundice and a total sleeper. I only woke her if she got to 3 hours without eating and only during the day.

I will probably do the same thing with my next LOs.

I did. DS didn't get back up to birth weight until around 3 weeks old, so we were waking him every 3 hours during the day, and sometimes I'd push it to one 4 hour stretch at night. Of course, just when we could let him sleep through, he woke up on his

  • I did all the time, I followed baby wise when LO was first born. I would wake him to feed him every 3 hours DURING THE DAY ONLY. He was never upset becasue he got to eat. I did not wake him at night every.

  • I don't remember, a lot of the newborn period is fuzzy now. But if the next LO is doing well weight-wise and my supply is ok, I won't wake to feed. I also would probably skip the MOTN diaper changes, I feel like I was changing diapers in the middle of the

  • I did when we were in the hospital, per the nurses advice. By the time we got home she woke herself up every 3 to 4 hours so I never had to.

  • I woke DD at night if it has been 4 hours since she had last ate.  I only did this until she reached her birth weight again.  During the day, I nursed her every 2 hours and would wake her up if I had to so she would eat.
  • I would if the baby was losing weight and my MD said to. Otherwise, NO WAY! If that baby's sleeping, so am I!

  • I did for a good 2 months with Eli. He was 3 weeks early and was super tiny so I had to make sure he was gaining enough. Once my ped said to let him start going longer, I adjusted accordingly. If the next time around I don't have weight issues, I probably

  • I didn't. My little fatty always woke up when he needed to be fed. He'd do a few 3-4 hrs stretches (but not often). I let that boy sleep.

  • I did not, but that's because I didn't have to. As a newborn, Addy almost certainly had colic and I nursed her all the flipping time because I didn't know what else to do with her. Sometimes our nursing sessions would be 30 minutes apart it was so bad.
