I'm so glad to finally have a chance to share Scarlett's birth story with everyone. She is now 5 days old and MH and I are so in love. Here goes....
I was scheduled for an induction on April 8th, but had some concerns last week due to no fetal movement. I went into L&D last Monday (April 1) after attempting to do kick counts with lots of apple juice and cold water, but still no movement. Once at L&D, we heard Scarlett's heartbeat and we were sent home. Wednesday (April 3) I had my regular OB appt and the OB listened to Scarlett's heartbeat, but was concerned about the lack of movement. She ordered an NST for me for Friday (April 8). Friday at 3pm I went in for my NST and the nurse couldn't find the heartbeat. Another nurse came in and she wasn't able to find the heartbeat. At this point, I was hysterical. I screamed for one of the them to get a doctor. A moment later, the OB came in and took me to the sonogram room and immediately found Scarlett's heartbeat. I've never been so relieved in all my life. He then hooked me up for the NST scan and after about 10 minutes, he told me that her heartbeat was 185 and it shouldn't be above 160. He gave a call to L&D and had me head over for "further monitoring". The hospital was directly across the street, so I called MH and told him to come to L&D just in case. I didn't really know what to expect. Once I got there, they were waiting for me and set me up on a monitor. The nurse looked down at me and said "your not leaving here today without having this baby". Minutes later MH got there and then the room filled with people. Someone was asking my medical history, I was getting a line in my hand, someone was shaving me. The OB came in and said they were taking her out now. I was wheeled into the O.R. where I got a spinal and then next thing I know my baby girl was being whisked away by a NICU team. At this point, I hadn't seen her, but minutes later, I heard her cry for the first time. I was the best sound in the whole entire world. A few minutes later, she was brought to me by a nurse, but was then taken away again. We were reunited again about 30 minutes in recovery. I was told that she had inhaled some meconium and it was in her airway, but had not gotten to her lungs (thank God!). After that, things were uneventful. I was able to hold my little girl as we were wheeled into a hospital room and things have been absolutely wonderful since. Scarlett is a healthy little girl weighing in at 6 lbs 11oz and 19 inches long.
EDIT: Sorry for the large pic. I don't know ow ot make it smaller.
