Babies: 3 - 6 Months

LO gagging self.

My DD keeps sticking her fingers in her mouth and ends up gagging. I got her a teething toy and she does the same with it. Does anyone have a similar experience? What can I do to stop her? TIA

Re: LO gagging self.

  • My two year old still does that sometimes. You can't really stop it, they'll learn eventually.

  • My mom's coworker used to do physical therapy on babies. She said that doing that is good for them to push their gag reflex back to help them learn how to eat solids, but it seems it would be too early for your LO OP.&nbsp

  • My LO does this too. I'm glad she's not the only one though. I don't know how to stop her from doing that but like PP said they'll learn.

  • The books I read on development mentioned this as a passing comment.  It's pretty normal.  They don't know their own limits yet, but they will learn.

  • Thanks for the responses I guess I'll just have to wait for her to learn not to do it. It's just hard cause it sounds awful. But I guess that's the mommas job let them learn

  • My LO does this all the time. We just pull her fingers out of her mouth when we see her doing it.

  • My LO does this when he's teething. He started and his first tooth popped a week later. He's started again and I feel a little bump emerging.

  • Babies' gag reflexes are really close to the front of their mouth when they are young. It moves back as they get older.

Personally, I wouldn't take his hands out of his mouth when he was gagging on them. Putting things in his mouth is how he
