Working out- how much is too much?

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to this board and a first-time mom, due in December. I regularly work out really hard 5/6 days a week- have run several marathons and usually take a few really tough Athletic Conditioning classes a week, in addition to running, cycling and yoga...

I know you are advised to continue working out, if your body is used to it, but I'm not sure what the constraints are, mostly regarding the Athletic Conditioning classes. These involve sprints, burpees, jumping, weight lifting, etc.

Of course the health of my baby comes first and I don't want to jeopardize anything so early (I'm 5.5 weeks)... thoughts/suggestions?? THANKS!

  • You prob. need to just call your OB and ask.  Most likely what you are used to is fine however I have heard some restrictions on ab work.

I was doing Pure Barre (lots of intense ab work) before I got KU and my OB did ask me to stop bu

  • This is something I would discuss with your doctor or NP.

As a general guideline my OB said last time to avoid becoming overheated while exercising and watch your heart rate, but I don't remember what she said to keep it under. &nbsp

  • Yes, discuss it with your OB and follow their advice.  With my first pregnancy I had been doing martial arts 3 days a week for 2 hours a day.  I got my OB's permission to continue, as long as I kept my heart rate below 140 BPM.  This did me

  • Thanks guys! I asked the nurse over the phone yesterday and she just said to "tone it down" so to me instead of running a Half this weekend, I'll do the 10k instead, at an easy pace. Just wasn't sure what the consensus was for jumping or intervals (sin

  • I've researched this extensively because I am in the same boat - running and crossfit. Basically the only exercise with proven risk to the baby is high intensity intervals. Which is pretty much what Crossfit is! And your conditioning class. It gets your h
  • Same boat here. My doc said as long as I keep my heart rate under 140, I should continue what I'm doing. He also said moderate ab work was ok until 20 weeks.
