VBAC Induction?

Does anyone have any stories to share about being induced for their VBAC?  I've been reading up on it and that it can be risky.  I talked to my Dr last week briefly about it & he said he wouldn't want to induce a VBAC.  I'm worried that if I do choose to do a VBAC, what if I don't go into labor, or what if my labor isn't progressing?  Isn't it worse if your labor doesn't progress and then I would end up with an emergency c/s anyways (vs. just scheduling it)?

With DS I went into labor the night before my c/s was scheduled (he was breech) - that was at about 41 weeks.  I know my contractions were about 4 min apart, hurt like hell but I don't think I was really dilating.. not that this is any indication how it could go this time but who knows....

How do you know you weren't dilating with your first labor?

Don't doubt yourself. Labors always progress. Using drugs to speed things up is a hospital's way of getting you out sooner and has nothing to do with whether you or baby will be okay

  • I had pit with my VBAC.  My hospital had a strict 41 week limit for VBACers so at that point my option was to schedule surgery or induce.  My CNM was awesome and knew that I wanted to avoid unnecessary surgery.

  • Thanks for all the info. I'll talk more with my Dr to get his input & see how long I could wait, etc. I'm not sure if I was dilated with DS - I know I wasn't that far if anything, but I had the c/s within 4 hours of going into labor anyways...

  • My water broke and I didn't go into labor, so I was given pitocin. I was started on the lowest dose possible, which ended up being enough.

I was told that I was allowed to be induced as long as I had some progress.
  • I was induced at 39w2d at 4cm.  He had not dropped at all.  At 10:30 am I received the pit (a low dose), 11:30 they broke my water, at  noon contrax started, starting pushing at 2:15 and he was born an hour later.  It was a great exper
