Parenting after a Loss

Update: Teething or something else?

I know I'm a STM but DS never really had teething issues.  DD is 3 1/2 months now and has been chomping on her fists a lot.  Yesterday, DH said she was resistant to the bottle, taking in less than normal.  She would just pull away or fall asleep.  When I came home from work, she did nurse a bit with me but not a lot.  The evening nursing sessions were not good - she would pull off immediately and scream.  I kept checking her to see if anything else was wrong, clothes too warm, hair ties on digits...nothing.  Took her temp via armpit and it was 98.8 (which would be 99.8 internally but not really a fever).  I decided to give her Tylenol and she puked.  After I gave her a bath, she wanted to nurse and did suck on for a bit and woke up for her normal mid-night feeding. She slept through the night with no issues.

I did run my finger across her gums and it seems that she has some rough spots on the side of her lower left jaw.

Update (12:30pm): DH took her to the pedi and all he could find was a blocked tear duct in her eye (it had been crusting up a little off and on for a while but nothing major).  No ear infection.  Maybe the eye stuff made her feel fussy..the more I think about it, she usually cried more if placed on the side with the affected eye so maybe the pressure was bothering her. Who knows. I never had a blocked tear duct so no idea what that feels like.

  • If it continues I would make a pedi appointment. Our only ear infection symptom is decreased interest in food with a little extra fussiness. It's entirely possible it's teeth, but I like to err on the side of caution.

  • It's actually the right time for her to start teething.  It usually begins around 4m.  The extra saliva could make her puke.  Though, I do understand the concern about her ears.

  • My sure but we have had a lot of the same issues though it seemed worse last week. I'd check the ears if it continues.

  • It's so hard to say.  DD did start teething around 3/4m and the first popped out at 5m, so it's possible to happen that early.  GL!

  • Sounds like teething to me.  DD seems to be in the most pain way before the teeth poke through, more when they are moving around under the gums.
