maternity shorts aka death to the gap

I bought 2 pairs or maternity shorts in a size 12 and large (I'm usually an 8) and they were both WAAAAAY too tight. Ugh. Now I feel like a house. I guess now I'm reading that the gap runs small.

Can anyone recommend their maternity shorts and if you live in the Northeast, are shorts in stores yet?

Old navy. I normally wear 10s and ordered jeans and khaki shorts in 10 that fit. I also ordered a basic black flowy skirt that I expect to get a lot of use out of.

I'm in the northeast and bought a pair at Kohls that I'm happy with...they only had gray, so hoping they stock up more as summer gets closer.

I bought some shorts at Old Navy but I had to buy a size 8 in one style and a 10 in the other (pre-pg I was a 6 or 8). I've had a few issues in the past when their sizes weren't true to fit but it doesn't happen often enough that I avoid them all together
