Baptism Event - WWYD?

We are getting DS2 baptized next month.

The church service is at 11am. We live about a 5 minute drive from the church.

Do you think I should do a breakfast/brunch thing before the service at our house or a lunch thing afterwards?

Before the service I feel like it would be hectic trying to have people over while making sure the boys are dressed and ready to go to church.

But I feel like after the service it'll be meltdown city at our house since both boys will need lunch/naps as soon as we get home (probably around 12:30-1pm).

I'm assuming that there will be 15-20 people there - including a few friends who have young children (ages 3 or under) who will also take naps in the afternoon (maybe 4 kids total in addition to our own).

I am also not going to cook - I'd probably go to Costco the night before and buy some sandwich/wrap trays, veggies trays, drinks, etc. so food prep would be fairly easy either way I think...

  • I would do lunch after church. I would worry that if you had people over before you may have a hard timw getting everyone out of your house on time. It would stress me out. I would rather deal with a nap meltdown.

  • I would do lunch.  Especially if you are getting sandwich trays. Things will be too stressful and hectic if you do it before

  • Lunch afterwards, definitely.  Trying to get all of those people out of your house on time, plus getting the kids ready will never happen.   DS' baptism was also at 11:00 am and we just ordered some trays from the Italian restaurant and had

  • Yep.  Lunch.  You can always put DS down for his nap.  Everyone should understand.

  • I also agree with doing lunch. The older kids will probably just eat & play & forget all about napping. At least your guests' kids will probably conk out on their car ride home!

  • We did a luncheon after with A's baptism. I think it would be to chaotic to do something before the baptism and it would get the kids too hyped up right before church.

  • Any chance there is a room at your church that you could use for the lunch, assuming you'd bring your own food?  That would at least cut down on travel time.  I agree though that lunch is best regardless of where you have it.  C was pretty

  • I was leaning towards lunch, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally mis thinking things.

I'm sure the older 2 and 3 year old kids can just eat and play outside in the backyard and be distracted enough to be okay missing naps. Then may

  • O's baptism was at 11am as well.  We did lunch afterwards.

What I had to add was I have an Aunt who doesn't go to church-she is like totally against it.  So she offered to stay at my house and meet the caterer so that when everyone ca

  • Lunch afterwards is a good idea.
  • Ditto PPs - lunch afterward.  Breakfast/brunch before would be too hectic for me.  Either your DS can take a nap during the party or later in the afternoon... or even just skip it that day.

DS' baptism was at 11:00 too and we had lunc
