My midwife suggested a glass of wine during early labor to help relax. She also said a single glass of wine with dinner is okay while breastfeeding? Is this true? Has anyone else heard this? I guess during labor, it is a little late to cause any birth defects, since the little peanut is already fully formed. I would still worry about my little one's young liver.

If I didn't drink while breastfeeding, I'd have gone 3 years without a drink. That sounds not very fun.
A bit of wine in early labour isn't going to hurt anything, but it's also a suggestion not a prescription. Do what makes you comfortable.

Last pregnancy my midwife said to have as glass of wine and a bath when labor got going in order to calm myself, relax and to settle the first time mom nerves. I did and it was very calming :-)

It's absolutely fine if it will relax you. And in fact, one well known galactogogue (aid in producing milk) is dark beer like Guiness. It is frequently suggested for nursing mothers.
I've had the occasional glass of wine since 2nd tri so i am definitely not against it. In my mind, fermented grapes are probably far better than the chemicals and crap they put in food nowadays.
I may have to try wine when the contractions star
