Maternity Leave Pay

I work for a Fortune 50 company and have been amazed how difficult it has been to receive all the benefits I am entitled to.  Basically needed to make several calls to notify then after completing all the forms sent to me apparantly more needed to be done.  Why there isn't a straightforward checklist I am not sure.  And yes I met with HR before my leave and I have the benefits handbook. So that is my first vent - now in checking my pay I have been shorted over $2500.  Why can't maternity leave be an easy process.  So will need to make a call to payroll tomorrow to hopefully fix this.

Has this happened to anyone else?  Maybe it's more common to incur difficulties when on leave than I would expect.

  • I didn't get any pay. I work in the public school system and I had to use my sick days.

Hopefully the call to tomorrow can fix everything.  We only have one HR rep, so it was pretty easy to get consistent answers because we only have one per

  • Each company's policy is different, which is probably why there is no "standard check list". Some companies pay out of their own pocket, others have third party short term disability policies (and some have a mix of both).  All your ducks need to be

  • I had to make several calls both before and after LO's birth, fill out forms before and after, and send a few follow-up emails.  Pretty standard, I think.  I was "shorted" pay but that's because that's part of our benefit - 70% of my p

  • My maternity leave pay also got all messed up.  They managed to put me on unpaid leave status the very day she was born, when I still had 6 weeks of disability and 4.5 weeks of vacation pay due me.

It took several phone calls to get

  • Yes when I met with HR and review of the policy handbook I am entitled to 10 weeks @ 100% (8 as had a c-cestion and 2 additional paid parental leave).  My LO is 9 weeks so everything should still be at 100%.

  • Mine was easy and straightforward. My company did provide a checklist.

  • My leave was unpaid but I have heard from many of my friends that they had to really keep an eye on how HR handled their leave benefits. Frustrating but unfortunately not unusual.

  • I work for a small company and didn't get any pay when I went on leave. I would gladly make a few extra calls to receive some pay instead of 3 months with nothing!

  • My leave was unpaid; I had to use sick days. Now I have to come to work when I'm sick or take an unpaid day which would definitely have a negative impact on my performance reviews.

Are you sure you're entitled to 100 of your pay? If so, aweso

  • Since the amounts were not the same every week - not sure what they have done did not talk to payroll yet.  Since I am salaried there is a set rate.  I am going off of gross numbers not net for what they've paid.
