Ergo carrier vs. less expensive + good for 2 sizes?

I want an ergonomic carrier-- no front-facing option, etc. and obviously the Ergo is the first thing that pops up. I just read some horror stories about the Infantino "ergonomic" carrier that I was considering, so I was wondering... Is there a less expensive but just-as-good option rather than the Ergo?

Also, for the Ergo or any other carrier you would recommend, is it reasonable to expect it to fit my husband (5'10, 160lbs) and myself (5'2, 113 lbs pre-preg) or are they not that adjustable? I have the K'Tan already, so we're moreso looking for a carrier for my hubby, and for when baby gets older/heavier and could use more support.

TIA!

  • As an Ergo user, I would argue that the Ergo more than pays for itself.  Also you can get them in EUC everywhere or even Marshall's carries them discounted.

Mine is 6 years old and going to be used on #3 and she is still holding strong :)&nb

  • Generally you get what you pay for in a ergonomic carrier.  So yes, the Ergo is totally worth it.  I had one and loved it, but my kids really prefered to front face so I got a Beco Gemini.

  • I think you get what you pay for with carriers, and really wouldn't try to skimp here.  I have an Ergo that I used with DS from 2 months to over a year, and I could carry him all day long at the zoo, park, whatever with no issues.  Ergo has a

  • I've only used my Ergo for 2 months, but yes, it does fit different sizes.  I'm 5'2" wears size 2; DH is 5'9" 180lbs. We can both use the Ergo.

  • If you don't mind sharing, I was just wondering what the horror stories are that you have heard regarding the Infantino ergonomic carrier?

I've had that carrier for 1.5 years now and I love it.  It's very well made, easy to use, easy to adju

  • I'd try to find an Ergo used or on sale. I know REI sells them and if you're a member, you can use your 20% off coupon, which should make it about $90.

  • Thanks, ladies! My aunt is actually buying the carrier for us, but I don't know if she understood me when I was trying to tell her how expensive the one we were looking at (Ergo) was, so I wanted to make sure I covered our options before telling her wh

  • It's not cheaper, but being short you might look into the Beco carriers too. I'm 5'5, so not even super short (but I do have a short torso!), and while I love my Ergo for front carries it strangles me in the throat when I wear her on my back.
