Hello! My husband and I just took the first big step forward in adopting: we filled out the formal application and have it ready to go in the mail tomorrow! Yay and yikes!
So my story that got us here? We started TTC in June 2010 and went a whole year without getting pg. I finally got that BFP in June 2011, but had a missed m/c that August. We continued TTC naturally and with low-level infertility treatments (hormone therapy with timed intercourse, then IUI). We reached a point where we were not comfortable with the next steps in treatments, as they were against our religious and personal beliefs. So we decided to start looking into adoption.
Adoption has always been an option, but until this year it was one option, not the only one. I had a second m/c (unexpected BFP conceived naturally) two weeks ago at around 5wks, but we had already made the decision to adopt and have gone ahead with the paperwork.
We met with two adoption agencies, one smaller and more locally based, the other a national organization with a couple offices around NYS. We liked both but have decided to go with the smaller local agency. It's more affordable and we just liked the "feel" of the people we met when we went for the informational session.
So we're jumping into domestic infant adoption with both feet, eyes wide open, hoping for the best!
Re: Application ready to be mailed! (intro)
Welcome aboard! I am so sorry for your losses.
I am in the same place as you right now. We are filling out our home study application and also met with a few agencies and chose a smaller one, just like you!

After 1 IUI, 3 IVF's with CGH/CCS testing, 10 early miscarriages, and lots of tears and frustration, we are moving on to Domestic Infant Adoption! We are so excited to see what the future holds.
Mother of two wonderful boys! Blessed through adoption.
