Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

1-year old--Transition question

My daughter just turned 1 and we had her 1 year ped appt.  Time to transtion to milk!! She has been using a sippy cup (she prefers the straw kind) for water since 6 months old.  But a bottle for her formula/bm.  Now I want to completely cut out the bottle and put her milk into the sippy for her to drink at mealtime. I have attempted a couple of times and she rejects the formula/milk mixture (still transitioning) out of the sippy and will only take it out of the bottle.  Any one have any suggestions for making this switch easier?  Otherwise she is a great eater...and seems to have no problem with the taste/tolerance of milk...its just a cup issue.

Re: 1-year old--Transition question

  • I just switched a bottle a week. I wanted to gently ease my baby into toddlerhood. Maybe try having a different type of straw sippy for milk only, something cute that she might like, flowers, princesses or something. And make a big deal about her new m

  •  We also went cold turkey with getting rid of the bottles.  When my daughter got hungry enough, she just gave in and drank the milk out of her sippy cup.

  • I tried giving DS2 breastmilk in a sippy (he had been taking water in it just fine for months) but he wasn't having it.  He never really got bottles so I thought BM in the sippy wouldn't be a big deal.  A few months later I put whole milk in

  • try the Avent line....the sippy cups (non-straw style) has a soft spout. the bottom part is just like a bottle.
  • we did this the same way.  we did WCM in bottle first so he can get used to that, kept trying to get him to drink water or juice out of sippy cup.  It tooks us a while and many cups to find one he liked.  Once we found a cup he liked and

  • DD had a little trouble and was not gaining weight well already so we transitioned to the NUK active cup (which is very similar to a bottle) and continued our bottle routine, then I changed it to another cup (from Walmart) that had a pretty soft spout but
  • Personally, I wouldn't mix the milk and formula/BM.  We never did.  And just keep trying.  I'd probably stop offering bottles at all - if she knows you'll give in to that, she'll keep refusing the cup.  It won't be the end of the world
