How to transition from swaddle to sleep sack?

My DS recently began to roll onto his sides and is very close to rolling onto his back. I've been swaddling since day one and he loves it and sleeps really well swaddled. I'd like to begin to not swaddle him and make the transition to the sleep sack. I'm dreading it however as I've tried not swaddling one arm or both before and he will startle himself or rub his face and keep himself awake.

Moms who've done the transition from swaddle to sleep sack do you have any tips for making this change? Or do you think he's just not ready?

  • I didn't switch to a sleep sack until 6 months with my firstborn and I probably won't with this one either. I switch when they get really good at rolling from back to front, before then when they roll front to back or are just starting out back to front,

  • We went cold turkey at 15 weeks and it really hasn't changed her sleep much at all. Like you, we had previously tried one arm out or both arms, and I was expecting a complete disaster of a night. When I laid her in the crib the first night, she started
  • I'm interested to see the responses as well! I just purchased a Merlin's Magic Sleepsuit hoping it would make this transition a bit easier!

  • I just left one arm out for a week and he preferred that to being swaddled because he loves to suck on his fingers. When I switched him to a sleep sack, he didn't seem to react. For my DS, I think it was just being ready for it. He likes to suck on his fi

  • DD is18 weeks and slept her first night Not swaddled last night.  I prepared for the worst.  She sleeps really well at night so I was hesitant to make the transition.  She did great! I bought a zippadee zip and she smiled when we put it on
  • Because your LO is showing signs of rolling, it's time to stop.  I was really nervous when it was time to stop too, but my LO did way better than I feared.  We weaned gradually, doing one arm out for 1 night and then both arms out for 4 nights.&

  • We started swaddling one arm in/one arm out when DS was around 3 months.  He was fighting the swaddle a lot and strong enough to lift the swaddle flap over his face.

I also noted one day (when he was around 3 months) that when he got
