My son just learned how to get himself into a seated position from his back or belly in the last couple of days. Last night he was up for 2.5 hours getting into this seated position in his crib. At 1AM he started crying and I checked the monitor and he was sitting straight up in bed. So I went in there, rocked him to calm him down, then laid him down like normal (usually he will just go right back to sleep). Well, he flipped right into the seated position and immediately started crying when I laid him down. I checked his temp, he's not sick (just was at the doc for something else), not teething, etc. So I tried just letting him cry for a while to see what he did. He just sat there and cried. So over and over I went in, laid him down, rocked him, patted him, let him cry, tried everything and all he would do was just flip right back into his seated position. Eventually he finally went to sleep.
I have read somewhere that when babies learn a new trick like this sometimes their little bodies just can't turn off their brain to keep trying the new skill. Long story short...do I let him cry? Keep helping him lay down and try to help him settle to sleep? What did you do? (FYI, we did CIO a couple months ago for multiple night wakings and a normal night for us is one waking, nurse, then right back to sleep).

The same thing happened to us when my daughter first learned that trick...and again for a few nights when she learned to pull up to standing.
What worked for us was to put her in the Ergo to put her back to sleep...once she was sleeping we put he
