Am I being ridiculous?

DH and I have an opportunity to go to Hawaii this summer, with Connor too of course. I?m not sure I want to go. Is that crazy?

We?ve gone to Hawaii before we had Connor and we when surfing, horseback riding, zip lining and had a blast. I just worry that if we take Connor, we can?t do any of those activities and I?ll spend the week chasing him around putting sun screen on him and trying to get him to sleep in an unfamiliar place and not cause a scene in restaurants.

Am I being a "negative Nancy" or should we pick a more toddler friendly vacation?

  • I would go! You may not be able to do the same activities as before you had him but you will be able to make new memories as a family, that would be so fun!!!!

    I wouldn't even think twice!

  • Yup.  I agree with PP.  You're crazy for not going.  Sure you won't be able to do the same things you've done before, but I don't think there is such a thing as a "toddler-friendly vacation."  A beach and a pool are a TON of fun for

  • All good points ladies, thanks for giving me some perspective. Plus, I'm not sure what a toddler-friendly vacation would be now that I think about it.  ;) My parents are going so there will be a bit of help.

    amen!
  • I completely understand! We're trying to plan our first family vacation. We both really want to go to Daytona, but most of the fun stuff we used to do there we won't be able to do with a baby in tow. Is anyone else going with you? If so I'd say go for it!

  • I can see having reservations about going. I know with our LO, a trip to Hawaii sounds anything but relaxing and fun. A long flight with a squirmy toddler, a hotel room with no separate space for the baby to sleep, having to be in for the night at 7PM eve
  • Vacationing with just me, DH, and Colton was decided against this year. Like you said, you can't really do anything and you're in your hotel room by 7. My friend just went to Mexico with their 15 month old. Se said never again. It's all about the temperam

  • At least you have been to Hawaii before and got to enjoy it with just the 2 of you.  Now you can as a family of 3 :)  We went on our honeymoon...so it would be different if we went with the kids, but still fun. Hawaii can still be a very family

  • I agree with Mkarns. It depends on the kid. With my oldest I would have went in a skinny minute. My middle was very routine and home oriented and was miserable on trips till age 3.
We are going on a beach vacation in July a couple of hours from hom

  • Just to give a fuller picture, Connor still takes two naps and I'm in no hurry to stop that and he is a grouch when its too hot. Connor isn't walking yet, and I hope he will be by summer time, but there are no guarentees and carrying him, he's 25lbs+,

  • I felt the same way when we took DD when she was 10 months old to San Francisco. We really enjoyed our time there, but if we go on another vacation, I will probably arrange to leave DD at home.

As much fun as I had with her, we would have like to

  • We're not big vacationers anyway but we're putting off doing big vacations until we're out of the toddler age. Honestly it just seems like more work than it's worth. If I'm going to pay thousands of dollars to go on vacation then I don't want to "waste" i

  • I would absolutely go! But we're taking DD to Italy for 15 days this summer, so I may not be the best person to ask :)
