Running/Working Out Question...

Hey Ya'll!

So I am not a "workout fanatic" but I like to work out once in awhile (i'd say like 4-10x a month doing Turbo Jam) but recently I haven't been b/c of illness/lack of sleep/broken toe. Also, several months ago I signed up for a 5K Fun Run and was planning on getting a treadmill and/or walking/running outside (once this snow goes away!) to train for it. I am just curious as to what you guys recommend for "training" for the 5K (I know it's a fun run and I don't have to run the whole thing, but I don't want to walk the whole thing either) and do you think it's ok to continue with my workouts on occasion?  Or since I don't do them regularly and wasn't doing them that often right around the time I got pregnant (I am almost 9wks), I should just nix the workouts and plan to walk the 5K?  Thank you in advance!  It is much appreciated!

Re: Running/Working Out Question...

  • Honestly if you are not working on on a regular basis ( 3-4x a wk) and aren't already running, I dont think now is the time to start a training plan to run a 5k. Hal Hidgon has some training plans online, one of which is a walking 5k I think.

  • I agree with pp, given your current activity level, walking is best. You can still push yourself at a walk
  • I am using the Couch 2 5k app on my phone. I am taking it slow and to many of the training sessions a few times until I am comfortable moving to the next one. I started in January. I'm only on week six of the program due to repeating sessions. I've lost

  • Take it slow, but you need to start running some if you don't want to walk the 5K. You just don't want an injury.
