How did you get rid of the bottle?

My son just turned 2, so I threw out his bottles.  Believe me, I tried in the past, but he was inconsolable and would not drink or eat anything.  His pediatrician said he would be fine in a day or two.  Its now been a week, and he refuses to drink any milk.  I have tried at least 6 different types of cups (straw, sippy, no-top).  If I take away all fluids, and just offer him milk, he still won't drink it.  He is losing weight, his diapers are always dry, and he keeps waking me up asking for "ba ba."  Any suggestions?  Is it bad to just buy another bottle?

(Sorry about the outdated ticker.  Its been awhile since I've been around here, and I forgot how to change it. )

  • We just took it away at 12.5 months. He was good with the straw cup so we just went cold turkey. I can imagine it being harder as they get older. Have you tried a juice box or milk box (horizon organic)? I know that this has worked for a lot of people.

  • Oh goodness, I wouldn't give in even though it must be heartbreaking. What about taking him to target and letting him pick out his own sippy? play to his 'seeking independence'. he might want a color changing sippy, disney themed or something else. Tr
  • Also he doesn't need milk if he is drinking other fluids. Just up his cheese and yogurt for awhile.
  • We did it cold turkey at 12 months, and she was fine after a few days.   We just made sure to supplement with other forms of dairy like cheese and yogurt, because she wouldn't drink nearly as much milk from a cup as she did from a bottle. &

  • We did it cold turkey at 15 months, it was awful for about a month and it was better around 2 months.  It is going to be hard especially since your kid is older and more stubborn at 2.  Don't give in.  Just try and give lots of extra fru

  • We took it away at 14 months for DS2 (DS1 dropped it at 8 months, no issue)-- he was getting it at naptime and nighttime (bad, I know) and would not sleep without it. He doesn't use a pacifier. For 6 weeks, he screamed for 30-45 minutes every night. I

  • I was terrified to take away bottles from my son, but it turned out great.  I went about it a different way.  I did it at 12 months and he used to get 8 oz of milk in a bottle.  I started by taking away the lunch time bottle and giving h

  • Dont give a bottle back to a 2 yr old. It is hard for sure. But, he will drink eventually. Make sure you're giving foods w/ hydrating value- fruit, veggies, yogurt, etc (you can look up foods that hydrate). I'm curious- why is he losing weight b/c of n

  • OK, I'm totally in the minority here, but I say give it back.  Maybe for just morning and night time and give cups during the day.  If he's not drinking for a week then it could be unhealthy for him (and you said he's losing weight and hasn't
