Switching OBs?

Would it be crazy to switch... I'm 31wks! I feel like a nut job switching and I feel guilty too because I love my CNM at my current practice but that is it. I despise everything else about them. I don't like any of the other doctors, the receptionist is a major bish, and they are constantly trying to move my appointments around for their convenience.

I've thought about switching but I just learned that one of the changes when my hospital was merged with another was an established a 24/7 OB/GYN in-house hospitalist service. The "practice" is in the same building, just a floor lower than my current OB and includes both the OB that saw me during my entire pregnancy last time (he switched practices the month after I had M) and over saw my labor up until delivery when they switched on-call and another doctor delivered me, an amazing doctor that is also part of this new practice!

So I'm seriously considering calling them but I don't want to sound like an idiot... so is it crazy?

Oh and my current OB is on-call at the same hospital so it's very possible they would be delivering me... how am I supposed to not feel like/look like a giant a** if I switched and they end up delivering me.. ugh! DH says it's my body and we have a ton of appointments left so he wants me to be comfortable but I'm such a people pleaser it's putting me on edge...

Re: Switching OBs?

  • I agree with your DH. I would switch if you really want to. I switched a few weeks ago for different reasons. I am so happy I did. Everything I want is now with the new practice that has midwives.

No matter the outcome it will all work out :).

  • IMO you should be comfortable with your doctors, especially during pregnancy. I think it's getting down to the wire, and your new doc would have to look over everything that's gone on since the beginning, but I think it's more important that it makes YOU
  • Switch. If you feel in your gut that you should, then switch. It's not your primary concern right now to keep your OB's feelings from being hurt! This is about YOU and how comfortable you feel!!  Good luck!

  • If you want to switch, then call and see if they will take you on. I switched ob's twice when I was pregnant with my son. Once at around 10 weeks as them again at 20. I'm am still seeing my ob and midwife who delivered my son. I would just be aware that t

  • I agree with your DH. If you feel more comfortable with the doctors at the other practice and you feel that it would be a better experience. Switch!
