NBR - indoor/outdoor potted plant ideas

I saw a neat idea online a while back for a potted plant for mother's day. I want to paint the pot then use DS's foot print to paint a butterfly on the it.

I just don't know much about flowers/plants. What kind of plant/flower would you recommend to put in the pot? My mom loves all flowers and greenery. But ideally I ma looking for something that can maybe stay indoors and not groow too much so it can stay in the flower pot for a while.

    How about an orchid?  They don't grow too big, but they are a little high maintenance.  They do well indoors.

    Aloe plants are nice and helpful. If you want them to get bigger, transplant them outside. How about a selection of herbs and spices?

    You could do little succulents (they kind of look like little cacti - google them), as they are good indoor plants.  Some herbs would be good too, or cat grass, even if she doesn't have cats, it's really pretty.  One of the pp said orchids, but
