Hey BFing ladies,
I am currently engorged, my milk supply started coming in this morning. LO has not been going to sleep like I'd hoped he would. Instead he would cry until I'd put him on my breast. The problem is that I had already gotten done BFing him fifteen to thirty minutes ago. He doesn't get done for about twenty to thirty minutes on each breast when BFing the first round. After fifteen minutes he'd want back on and he'd BF for another 5 minutes on each breast. Then he'd come off and still be fussy. I'd change his diaper, make sure he is snug in his chair, and an hour later he'd throw up his breast milk again and then cry and squirm like he is hungry once again. I know the throwing up is that he is getting too much milk so I cannot put him back on my breast to quite him, but he only settles down for about five minutes and then he starts up again. I've talked to the L&D nurses about my engorged breasts (ice pack, hot shower, massage, dispense a little bit) and I've talked about his situation of throwing up after BFing. They said it was normal and not to be concerned so long as the color of the throw up isn't a light green, yellow is fine. What should I do about him crying instead of sleeping? Should I give him a pacifier? Is it too early? Any other ideas to get him to go to sleep? He is 3 days old and he didn't start acting like this until last night.
Re: Should I give him the pacifier?
For sure give him the paci if it helps. But it's normal for you to be engorged (your body doesn't know yet if you had 1 baby or 2 or 3.) Once your body figures out demand, it will figure out supply.
If your son seems hungry, feed him. He is proba
