Just for fun (since I've been listening to the Godfather Returns on audio book), would you ever cover up a crime for your children? I'm talking serious crimes.
So for example, your 18 child comes home with blood on his clothes and confesses he/she killed someone. This is all you know- you will never know who he/she killed and will never learn any more details. If you turn him in he/she will go to prison for life. If you "cover up" the crime he will get away with it.
What do you do? My husband is a criminal defense attorney and I've done some defense work and the underlying theme among most of our attorney friends is that they would conceal crimes for their children.
I will start by saying that given the scenario above I would probably cover up the crime, and if I wouldn't my husband definitely would.
How about some controversy for a Monday morning? My work day sucks so far.
EDIT: I was trying to make it an anonymous poll but it won't work in my stupid browser.
Re: NWMR- controversial Q- covering up a crime?
It depends...Is this for $100M net?
Only knowing the little information above, I would probably help cover it up.
Hmm...I'd like to think I'd raise my son properly that this wouldn't happen, and if it did, it happened in self defense as a last resort.
I can't even begin to wonder because I'm big on the truth and taking responsibility for one's actions...kee

It's hard to imagine actually covering up a crime for anyone. It would probably depend on what it would involve.
I can more easily see myself spending a ton of money on a really good lawyer in an attempt to keep him out of prison
Never say never, but I really find it hard to imagine a circumstance where I would cover up a crime for anyone - even my child.
I'm just a big believer in honesty and the truth ultimately prevailing. If my child commiteed a horrible crime
I would never cover a crime like that for my child. I actually think it's disgusting that someone would cover a murder for their child.
As a parent I couldn't imagine it. The person who was killed has parents too, and possibly siblings or even ki
No covering anything up. I have spent the last 20+ years watching my parents, while not covering up for my brother, bailing him out of every single situation he has gotten himself into - and we're not talking about minor indescretions. I co
In the scenario you described, I probably would not help him conceal it. I would most likely let him stay at our house while we tried to hire the best lawyer we could afford, then encourage him to turn himself in. But I also don't think I would ca

I don't know that I'd cover it up as I would more want to help give them resources to escape to another country. In an act of self defense, or the killing of someone who had hurt a family member, I would be more inclined to offer assistance.
That was my first thought too.
I said I wouldn't cover for my child. I'm shocked people would. My pain at having a child convicted does not compare to the pain of those who lost a loved one.
