Lottery - update

Just wanted to clarify I was hoping for like $200 towards DD's college fund or something. We totally don't need the money and like I said, we loan them money a lot.

Just stings a little when they talk about spending 10,000 a day lately and DD is getting a $10 gift for her birthday lol! But it is what it is.

So nobody would feel a bit bad about that (the birthday scenario?) Gosh, I feel evil lol! I don't really look at dollar value of gifts but that stings just a bit.

We went to visit today and we are totally fine lol! They are good people, just different.

My Dad makes just under a million a year in salary and has stock options worth maybe 3 million. I totally don't expect anything monetary from my family at all but we aren't very close right now. I grew up wealthy but never expected a free ride ( I paid for my own college, etc).

Do not ask me why I put expectations on DH's family I don't put on my own lol!

But really we were expecting a dinner out maybe? Oh well.

Good thing is I got $50 of my last $70 I lent MIL. She even had an extra 20 but needed it for cigs so I didn't get my whole 70 bucks lol! DH and I laughed in the car about that one.

If they are throwing what they bought in your face, I might mention it...

I never understood why someone would even buy a new car and be like, "OMGZ LOOK AT MY NEW CAR!"  My parents do this and so do a few on the in-law side.

  • I think I just need to let it go lol! Thank God I vented here, got it out of my system.

We did decide to stop lending them money.

  • I read the thread earlier but didn't have a chance to comment.  I would totally feel the same way that you feel.  If either of my parents or my IL's won that much money, I wouldn't EXPECT them to give us anything but I feel certain they would an
  • My ILs recently came into an inheritance, not as big as that lotto winning, but fairly large. They gifted each of their kids $10k, which I thought was extremely generous. I never expected a dime, but when I thought about it, I would definitely do that

  • I wouldn't expect money and I think we're pretty giving people, but I wouldn't give my family a large sum of money unless they were in need. we'd give nicer gifts for birthdays and holidays, though. We'd put it in the bank and save it for retirement and

  • I don't think you're evil at all!  I wouldn't just send checks to my siblings (5 of them!) until my windfall was divided evenly lol.  But if I were older and had grandchildren I would definitely want to splurge on the family a little bit.

  • Honestly, I get the resentment for their extravagence when you have saved their hiney over the last few years.  THAT would annoy me.

My honest opinion is that you not give them a single cent ever again.  We all know that they will blow

  • What's shocking to me is that they are already retired at only 50, with financial problems.

I would hope they'd put their winnings to good use because 50 could be a long way to go before death.

    They sound irresponsible and selfi
