NW Hospital Deliveries?

Hi all!

I'm a first time mommytobe in North Seattle, due December 7th :

I'm trying to decide between Swedish or NW Hospital. I have heard good things about Seattle obgyn, which delivers at Swedish, but can't find any good reviews in clinics that deliver at NW hospital. Anyone have input or referrals?

Here are the specific clinics in hoping to get info on:
Meridian Women's health
Avani women's health
Salish Women's Health
NW Obstetrics Gynecology in the hospital I think

Any input will be appreciated! Thanks :

Re: NW Hospital Deliveries?

  • I've heard really good things about the midwives at NW. If you are lowrisk you might want to check them out. Northwest and Swedish First Hill have very different cultures, so maybe tour them both and see which is a better fit. There is lots of info about local birthplaces in

Good luck finding the best place to have your baby.

  • I have heard great things about Swedish Ballard.
  • I've delivered twice at NW and really liked it. Awesome nurses both times.  I like Dr. LaGalbo and Dr. Kurachi at Salish Women's Health.  Definitely take a hospital tour to get a feel, but I'm a big fan of NW.  Hope that helps!
  • I delivered at Swedish Ballard and Swedish Issaquah...Ballard was VERY pro-natural labor supportive. I've heard First Hill is a bit of a baby factory and tends to lean c-section heavier with its higher risk patients, etc. Issaquah was ok...but I LOVED ballard.

  • My sister and I were both born at Swedish (many moons ago), lol and my mom was very happy there.
  • I'm also considering NW. We're not due until Feb 2014 so it's early but we're in Shoreline so NW would be convenient and we're already thinking about finding a hospital and then an OB... (crossing fingers that pregnancy stays on track). Did you make your decision yet? I'd be interested in your thoughts on both places.

We're also facing a 50% likelihood of twins so we'd want a place and an OB that could handle that if we find out there are two inside!

I did go to Salish Women's Health and see Dr. Kurachi back when we were TTC. I liked her but she had a little too much nervous or anxious energy about her. Not sure if she'd be a good fit for me as our OB with that demeanor in the delivery room.

Anyway, hope you found the right place for you!

  • Hi!

I too live in Shoreline and we went to our second appointment this week at Salish with Dr. Kurachi.  I really like her, but did notice a little nervous energy.  So hard to tell during the first meeting, though.  She was very informative and seemed very warm and welcoming.  Going back in two weeks for another ultrasound.

We are also due in Feb!

Fingers crossed all stays healthy and well...and if it does, maybe a future play date!

  • My OB is at Seattle OBGYN and I delivered my daughter at Swedish First Hill and I will be delivering there again for this baby.  I absolutely love my OB and I had a great experience at Swedish First Hill.

  • I am contemplating between NW & Swedish Ballard! Any suggestions ladies? And how would you finalize a hospital, since this is my first time, Im a little confused!
    Help!
  • Hello to the other women in Shoreline due in February! Hooray!
  • I delivered at NW and had a great birth experience. When I found out from my doc who work is in the Swedish Ballard building that he delivers only at NW I was disappointed I have to admit. He told me that he preferred NW because they have a level two nursery where Swedish Ballard did not. If something major was needed at SB they would have to transfer baby to First Hill. The level two nursery allows for more monitoring and care on site at NW before a transfer to a NICU is required.  Since I like my doc, I visited NW and found it would work for me.

The nurses were wonderful and followed my guidelines to the letter.  Since I gave birth there they did start a midwife program there so I don't know what that is like.

  • I had a wonderful experience at NW with Dr. LaGalbo two years ago. The best part of our experience was the nurses. We were in the hospital for 4 nights and every shift was so nice and helpful.
  • I'm a bit late replying, but I delivered with the UW Midwives at Northwest Hospital and had an amazing experience. Great room, with patient, supportive and attentive staff who were really thoughtful and considerate with my birth plan. Highly recommend them.
