Parenting after 35

Re-intro and dinner time question

Hi there ladies!  I haven't been around here since shortly after DD was born, so I thought I would do a little re-intro and then I have a question for you.  DD was born last March, and we just celebrated her 1st birthday.  I can't believe how quickly the year has gone by!  I used to hang out on TTC >35 and PG >35.  We currently trying to decide if we even want to try for #2 (and I have just been over lurking on the one and done board).  Hope to be around here again more!

On to the question:  DH rarely gets home from work until 6-6:30 pm.  DD needs to eat around 5:30-6.  As she eats more and more of the same foods we do, it is getting harder to make 2 dinners every night.  Should I try to make dinner early for DD and reheat it for us to eat when DH gets home?  Should I eat with DD?  Should I just give DD leftovers from the night before??  I don't really want either of them to eat alone, but not sure the best way to resolve this...  Thanks in advance!

As we like to have dinner together, and we also eat around 6-6:30, we started giving our kids a small snack around 5-5:30, when they get home from daycare. By small, I mean a slice of cheese, half of a cutie orange, nothing large so they will eat dinner a

  • Hi! We have similar dinner issues here, since DH usually gets home only about 30 minutes before DDs bedtime. I haven't really been consistent about it. Basically, if I'm hungry I'll make something and eat with her. DH can fend for himself. If not, I'l

  • Same boat here except DH doesn't get home until around 6:30-7 and DD really can't make it past 6:30 without dinner.  I give her a snack as soon as we get home around 5:30 and then will start making dinner when DH tells me he's on his way home.

  • Yeah, I do give her afternoon snacks: she gets ~ 4 oz of milk right before or after her naps and then either some puffs/yogurt melts/cheese etc. around 4:45, but then she's hungry again by about 5:30. Maybe I'll try increasing her milk and see if that h

We feed our girls around 5:45 or 6, they either get leftovers from the dinner the night before or just easy stuff to make.  I usually cook vegetables (steamed broccoli, roasted butternut squash, mashed sweet potatoes) on the weekend and just dole

  • What time does she go to sleep at night?  Can you give her a small but healthy snack to hold her off until your DH gets home?  I am a firm believer in a family dinner whenever possible so I would aim to have at the very least, you eat with her.&

  • i would def. try to set up family dinner.  you wont regret it.  your times are only off by an hour at most.  give the little one a light snack at 5 and eat as a family at 6:30.  it may take a few weeks to get everyone on the same sc
