Anyone have a 3rd grader taking the NY State tests this month?

My son is FREAKING OUT, particularly about the ELA portion of this test in 2 weeks. He is a very good student performing at or above grade level - never gets below a 90 on a test.

He cries every night and works himself up to the point of being sick. He's extremely anxious and nervous to the point where he doesn't even want to go to school and take the practice tests any more. We've tried to downplay it, telling him it's not a big deal and not to worry, but the kids in school must hype it up. Many have older siblings and have heard about it from them.

I have a call in to the teacher to discuss this. There might be a way to opt out, but I don't want him to think he can get out of taking these state tests. It's a part of school that everyone must endure. Any advice/suggestions?

    1.  I hate testing and the pressure it puts on kids.
