Any experts on sneakers?

I haven't purchased sneakers in a long time and would like to buy a pair for the gym. I went to Zappos and there is a sea of neon insanity out there. And what's up with the platform sneakers?

Please help! What brand and type do I want for mostly walking and the elliptical machine? I like lightweight ones with thin soles, but those don't seem to be comfy anymore. I'm tempted to get a pair of Pumas because they look cute, but they might not have enough support. I don't like bulky ones.

  • Nike is my go to brand, since they have awesome arch support.

  • I second the rec to shop in person. Even if you go find a better deal on line, I would at least go to a real store to see what feels good!

  • I'm all for going to a store to try some on.  If there is a running store in your area, they usually have a lot of knowledge on shoes best suited for certain activities.  I'm a huge Asics fan, but I put some miles on those puppies.  Pumas a

  • I love my asics, I would also suggest going to a running store and getting your foot fitted for a sneaker. If you don't have time for that ***'s Sporting Goods has a self sneaker fitter that will tell you if you have a wide food, what kind of arch you hav

  • Yup, I agree with pps that getting fitted at a local running store is the way to go. (Don't be intimidated if it's geared towards runners...They also know how to fit walkers and fit for cross training too.)

Walking and running shoes are very indi
