Pregnant after 35

This gifted crib is a PITA.

My friend gave me her crib. It had been assembled but used maybe once, as her daughter preferred to sleep with my friend in her bed. Or with her big sister.

Problem is, the crib is only partially assembled and my friend can't find the rest of the hardware so that I can finish assembling it (well, let's be honest, so MH can finish assembling it). I checked all the hardware and big box DIY stores-- they don't sell the hardware. I emailed the manufacturer and they said that it will cost $35 for a complete set (which I don't need but I don't know what I actually need because of the partial assembly) and that it is backordered until May. They still haven't responded with when in May despite my reply asking them because I'm due June 4th.

*sigh* I really don't want to spend the money on a crib. I am going to be using a co-sleeper for the first few months anyhow, but I don't want to be putting this crib together with a newborn, either. What a PITA.

And how crappy a person am I that I'm looking a gift crib in the mouth?

  • That does sound like a PITA!  I don't think you're a bad person for being annoyed with this "gift".  Any gift that requires extra work on my part, I don't consider all that thoughtful LOL.  Have you considered a convertible crib?  M

  • This crib is actually a convertible. Which doesn't really matter either way-- we actually have twin beds (a bunk bed set) from when I was a kid, so I don't even need it beyond crib time.

Money is just REALLY tight right now-- my pregnant brain for

  • Yeah that does sound like a pita so I understand.  Since you don't even need this right away maybe you can wait on buying the hardware.  YH can put it together later. Ours was pretty easy.  I understand wanting things done now thoug

  • It's not just about getting it set up in advance. We have NO extra room in our house. We have limited storage space. Plus, the room is such that setting it up without knowing where the crib is going to go, I have no clue where best to put everything el

  • If you do want to buy an inexpensive crib, we have the IKEA Gulliver (though we haven't had a chance to use it yet, obviously) and we like it. IKEA also sells a super-cheap crib (the Sniglar) for $70. It seriously sucks that you just had to shell out $70

  • I'll have to check out the IKEA options. Maybe if I have time and my parents don't mind making room in the car, I can pick one up when we zip down to CT for my grandparents' 75th anniversary dinner in 2 weeks...
