Update-Like I do not have enough to do

I have called the pediatrician's office and let the nurse have it.

She said that they have based it on the history of DS's cough and the reason I have come in because of that.

I told her I have learned that first we evaluate then prescribe medicine or evaluate then provide therapy. How can you assume that my son has asthma without evaluating? I even told her I have enough therapies to last me a lifetime. And I am not very happy about this.

She informed me that they can evaluate him for asthma in Albuquerque since DS is 4. They can evaluate DS when he is 6!

I thanked her for her help and hung up.

TIA

  • I think they call it "asthma" when a kid needs breathing medicine at any point. It's a pretty loose classification. I would not let it upset you this much. DS has "asthma" and we keep meds and let his teachers know to call us if he coughs a lot, etc. W

  • I will come to terms if they evaluated first and then prescribed medicine.

They wanted to give DS an inhaler based on observations in his medical records.

The evaluation for asthma is for ages 6 and up here in town.

  • So what your saying is they are attempting to make a DX only by reading his chart, not by symptoms or observation, correct?  I would have an issue with that also.  You can't just read through some notes and make a decision like that.  If hi

  • We did allergy testing with DS2 and is was easy compared to what I have gone through.  they have a board with all the basic and most common allergens on it.  They pressed it on his back for a sec and then we waited.
