Genetic Testing - you doing it?

Sorry if there have already been discussions on this ... we have to decide by Wednesday if we want to do Genetic Testing or not for Downs or (can't remember the other one?)

Hubby is dead-set against it. I think we should since it's free! even if it's just for preparedness ... what are your thoughts ?

  • Definitely wasn't free for us since our insurance covered the majority but not all of it.

We did the NT scan and blood work because we wanted to be as prepared as possible. We opted out of the second tri screening since our risks were so low

  • I am lurking but I just wanted to say I did not do this and I think it was a very good decision not too, why give yourself something else to stress about? Especially if your DH is against it.  Enjoy your pregnancy and not worry about all the stuff yo

Yes I did it with both kids. I wanted to be prepared for anything I needed to be prepared for.

  • Yes, I had an NT scan with both pregnancies.

I also believe it is a preparedness issue.  I delivered at more rural hospitals and had my children had a genetic disorder I would have wanted to be at a hospital with a good NICU.&nb

  • I didn't have any testing with my first two, but my peri routinely does the NT scan for twins. Cannot do the blood work though, because it will always come back high with twins. I'm excited to see my babies again! :]

  • We did all the testing offered.  NT scan, quad screen and neural tube defects.  Our daughter had a condition called encephelocele.  Hers  was at the base of her skull and contained spinal fluid and a large amount of brain matter.&nb

  • We'll be doing an NT scan and 1st tri bloodwork. Depending on the outcomes, we would do something more detailed like MaterniT21 if needed.

  • Nope, didn't have it done for a variety of reasons.  The scan doesn't test for everything anyway, so your baby can still be born with something you were "unprepared" for. Not sure why so many women are being negative towards those who choose not to f

  • Actually i stand corrected.. Its just a shame some of your mothers didnt have it done so they could terminate their obviously dysfunctional children.

It's people choice to do it or not and one way our another is not the "right" thing to do. I
