Too Late to Send a Birth Announcement?

Title: Too Late to Send a Birth Announcement?

We forewent sending a birth announcement when Lindy was a newborn mostly because we didn't have professional pics taken and I could never commit to a snapshot.  She is now four months old.

I'm fine with not sending an announcement, but recently she got a gift in the mail from my grandma with her last-name written as a hyphenated version of my last name and SO's last name... which it's not.  Now I'm thinking if my grandma was confused about her name, it's likely that others are too and maybe I should send out an announcement to hopefully clear things up.

Do you think it's too late to send an announcement?  If we do, do you think it will help people to know that she has her dad's last name, or are they likely to not notice/forget anyway?

Re: Too Late to Send a Birth Announcement?

  • I'm just curious- what made people think she has a hyphenated last name?

I don't think it's too late to send out announcements. Especially if you have friends and relatives who still haven't met her and you want them to have upd

  • I wouldn't bother.

I had same issue with my kids. We just told people, and repeatedly corrected them until they 'got it'.

  • I think the "etiquette" books or traditionally its okay to send out up to 6 months.  I sent mine out later than normal this last time.  I don't think its weird, even if people seen/met the baby... they still don't know all the exact stats.

Too late. It would be weird.

This. If I got a birth announcement for a 4 month old

  • Some people might think you're just doing it to receive a gift in return (if you haven't gotten something from them already). So I agree with the previous posters that you should just correct people as necessary. Plus, birth announcements can be expensive

  • I would say skip them.  Maybe do a 4th of July greeting later or something.  Seems too late.  As for the name, I wouldn't take the hypenating personally.  If it were me, I probably would have used your last name.  Just explain to

  • I live by the "six-month" rule.

As long as you send the announcement, thank you cards, etc, within six months from the event you should be fine.
